Big Upzzz Doc!!
LIKE,THE FULL GAME??WITH THE METROID QUEEN AND ALL THAT???
AFTER ALL THESE YEARS????????????????????????????
Now it's almost complete.
My, how time flies.
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited AF that this is very soon upon us, but I'm so paranoid the Big N is gonna smash it before the rest of the world (not including all of us that've been following the project for so long) get the chance to experience it :(
i have been following since longer then i recall
years of waiting on each new post just to read any little bit of info
i am only sad to know how quickly i will finish it :(
and then i will play it again faster, and faster for years to come :)
thank you so very VERY MUCH
This game has surpassed Zero Mission and Super Metroid in terms of quality and gameplay. You've kept to the formula of a 2D Metroid better than Nintendo has. I'm so thankful that after all these years of progress updates and demos, you haven't faced a cease and desist from the Nintendorks.
You are a hero in the Metroid community and shall be honored (at least in my mind), as such.'
Thank you.
Seriously now, I can't believe the end is in sight.
There's only a few things I'm not too sure about.
Will there be mod support?
I don't mind if it's not on launch, everyone will want to play it at least a couple of times normally. What I'm curious about is later on. Being able to tweak the sprites and sounds to our taste would be a very nice adition.
On a less likely note, if there was also a way to edit the map... then this would become Metroid Maker PC, making an already great project even greater.
I think you'd even be able to sell that program if you were to make it since it only edits the layout of a map you made and doesn't contain any copyrighted material.
...of course it would mean you'd have to code all the abilities and enemies from all the 2D metroid games at that point to allow people to recreate pretty much anything and effecttively create their own custom story.
There's a lot of pros and cons for this idea and I can't say which one weighs more because I don't know how much effort it would take and wether or not it's worth it is all on you.
hyped about it XD, I wanna play that game and
search for every corner of the game :D
Thanks DocM64 for this amazing game :D
I hope that you can make more incredible
fan games like this :D
I only want that fun game that you
always make :D and I know that I
wasn´t with this proyect from the beginning
but I´m proud to game this and share with
friends "RETRO GAMES RULES BD"

Me and my friends are waiting very excited this games.
Really Thanks!!
Sorry for my bad english
Greetings From Mexico :)
Even if, may I suggest, an X encounter occurs at the final section of the game where Samus eradicates the last eight original metroids, the only original metroids in the game. Maybe Samus encounters an X-parasite, which is then consumed by a classic metroid that moves in from off screen.
This is just an idea. However, I think that it could add a sense off legitimacy to the remake(by proving Fusion's claim that the X were natural lifeforms on SR388 with a natural predator being metroids, it would only make sense include the prey that metroids are designed to consume).
A more cryptic or simple appearance could even be made. Samus does proclaim in the Metroid Fusion intro that the X are "a life-form I had never encountered before."
I would be very satisfied by a small reference to the X. It really would be nice, but, do not take time away from any of all the other important aspects of AM2R. It really is a masterpiece.

we've even seen this happen before, you're betting 10 years worth of hard work with this.
Big fan of your work. Sad to see that the project is close to completion, but I say it was worth it and appreciate your time and dedication put into the game and making me relive my past.
Thanks!
So there's most likely two reasons why Nintendo hasn't done anything here.
Reason 1) They haven't seen this. It's possible, though unlikely. After all, Nintnedo is busy with their own stuff, and indie remake tribute fan games are a niche that Nintendo can't make money on so why spend money looking at them?
Reason 2) Since Doc is using 100% homemade assets within the game (Dude even remade every sprite and all! DEDICATION!) Nintendo *can't* do anything, or more to the point isn't sure that they can. Especially considering that it's a 100% Free to Own game. Not profiting, not reusing any Nintendo-created assets, not running on any hardware they create... that would be a lot of money in Law Work to stop a not-for-profit... which is not in competition with any game that Nintendo is making right now. If Nintendo WERE making another side-scrolling Metroid (Which we all wish they were, honestly,) then maybe they'd do this. The Lost-Sale fallacy is the belief that people getting Free X over the internet creates an equal amount of lost sales. Not true; some will buy both, some who get the free thing would never have paid for either. But it is a principle that businesses operate by.
So I suppose that at the moment the most reasonable reason there hasn't been a C&D order is that Nintendo would have to spend money for it, but not get any gain of any kind. In fact, at the moment, a fan-made Metroid remake might actually RAISE interest in the Metroid series, which hasn't seen a new game in 6 years (If you count Other M,) 7 years (If you count the Prime Trilogy Re-Release,) 9 years (If you count the Prime series,) 12 years (If you count Zero Mission, as it's a partially new remake,) or a whopping 14 years if you've been waiting for a new Side Scrolling True Metroid game since Fusion!
Right now, Nintendo is working on Federation Force, which could be a lot of fun... but isn't a Classic Metroid by a long shot. So this game is a form of free advertising for the Metroid World.
METROID WORLD! Why don't they just make that, dammit! Make a procedurally generated MMO world, saying that the Federation found another planet that Metroids live on (Chozo created them, after all!) have people create their own unique characters, and make it a solo/co-op exploration dungeon crawler in the classic side-view style! It'll never happen.
But anyway, keep up the great work, Doc! We're all rootin' for ya!
Not being a turd, here. Release earlier than your posted release date in case some jerk company that rhymes with "Winbendo" tries to send you a C&D.
Is it gonna be posted on another site somewhere or is it just going to disappear into the aether?
Been following this for longer than I care to remember and really don't want to see this just disappear. I was just looking at an announcement for Environmental Station Alpha 2 and thought "Oh shit, I wonder how far along AM2R is!"....Came here and saw the countdown timer and breathed a sigh of relief that this hadn't been taken down by Nintendo sooner
It was never Nintendo, it seems, but some troll.
Doc, you've done us all a great service. I'm forever grateful. I'll try to be the first to do a Let's Play or make a review of the final game for YouTube as my thanks.
Long-time lurker, first-time commenter. As much as I'm anticipating the final game, I'm just as excited for the rest of the soundtrack. Will there be a new soundtrack release, too?
Very good luck with the final touches :D
You've done excellent work. I look forward to playing the final version!
But beware Metroids will seek vengance on you thy will have Jaws, check, Location, check, Desire, check, Metoider Metroider Metroider Metroider ...
Really can't wait!
looking back.. i can't really recall when Nintendo actually stopped a remake/mode/hack directly. when a hack/mod called Project M(smash bros brawl hack) was becoming popular and was being played at tournaments Nintendo stopped the project indirectly by showing up to these tournaments and sponsoring the event themselves.. however in return they request that only official smash bros games be played.. meaning that Project M was off limits.
the fact of the matter is Nintendo still has the power to come in and stop this project with a cease and desist even as something minor like using the word "metroid" in the title. for example a chrono trigger rom hack called "chrono trigger crimson echos" had been in years of development and right at the very end Square Enix sent them a cease and desist just months before the project was finished. i'm just crossing my fingers and hoping this project gets released and distributed as quickly as possible. people seem to forget that copyrights are always in affect over anyone's work and although i love this project to death that doesn't mean this project hasn't violated copyrights.. although personally i don't give a damn. metroid has been abandoned by Nintendo.. maybe not legally but they seem to have ignored the metroid fans.
its pretty clear that they don't really care about the franchise either as they have no problems letting other companies make metroid games (retro studios, team ninja).. so why not let this fan project be? they are open to letting others make metroid games.. they should let the fans make them too as long as its non profit is really shouldn't matter.
I just wanna say thank you for this. I've been following you for years now and I can't tell you how much I appreciate the effort you've put into this. At points I thought you were going to drop the project, be it because of IRL stuff or something else, but nope, you kept going. So again thanks for letting me revisit a game from my childhood and remaking this awesome game (and thanks to all who helped make this game a possibility as well). Keep fighting the good fight and best of luck in your future endeavors.
One appreciative fan,
XenialZombie
Ocarina of time 2D was free, and so was Super mario 64 HD and they all got C&D'd. So it could still happen.
Fue bueno seguir este proyecto desde hace tanto tiempo :'3
Will AM2R support the DS4, and/or am I doing something wrong in trying to get the controller to work? Will other controllers work with the game? (as I do have some old PS1/PS2 to USB adapters for PC)
You know, I think I was only 11 when I first saw some information about Metroid 2 being remade. We're talking like 2004-2006 here. I never thought that this game would come this close to completion. You could have given up so many times these past 10 years, and yet you are about to finish the game and give people a remake that Nintendo could have put together, but has not. (Instead, they are giving us Metroid: Chibi Robot Force, but that's another story)
Congratulations on just making it this far!
THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!!

This game has reached and far surpassed my vision of a M2 remake, fan or official. Dr. M64, Thank you for giving me (and many others) a chance to see M2 in a way we could only dream!
well said. i too have been dreaming about a metroid 2 remake since zero mission. hell even a writer for nintendo magazine back in the day wrote about a possible remake for metroid 2 after zero missions release i was all the hype for it.. but then the GBA life ended and no remake. i was like "no problem, i'm sure they will make it for the NDS"... that never happened either. after that i gave up all hope until i saw the video back in 2008 of the first demo footage. i'm just happy we are getting this game.
1) The chrono trigger remake referred to on here was shut down by SquareEnix, not Nintendo. Nintendo knows fans remake their games. There's a Nintendo FanGame Convention every year.
2) Nintendo has to know about this by now. It's specifically mentioned in Wikipedia for Metroid 2, and it's also right on the main page of Google when you search for Metroid 2.
3) So many fans are mad AF about Federation Force, Nintendo would be stupid to not let this get released. Once done, they'd be able to buy a fully developed game that they could turn around and sell quickly to recoup their losses from FF.
In short, I don't think we have anything to worry about. August 6 can't come soon enough.
This is also free-advertising for Federation Force; which itself could very well be a good, fun game. This way people can get a classic Metroid Experience and get excited about another game set in the same universe, but with new gameplay.
I want this game to be released as intended.
No CnD's, please. Then again, this is the Internet. Things still get released after a CnD.
Saludos.
Gracias maestro, saludos desde Uruguay.

The quality of the project is pretty on par of that of commercial releases and it just feels good being able to play a 2D Metroid game again. (I like the Prime games though)
I wish I had the means to make a financial donation to show my support for the hard work you put in this project and to encourage you to undertake new projects in the future.
But as others have pointed out, I am also worried Nintendo might try to quickly make an end to this.
