New features preview

So, these new features will give you even more options to customize the way you control Samus. Morphing with just a button can give you a lot more versatility, specially when using analog sticks. For those with analog controls, Samus can walk if you push the stick halfway towards a direction.
And the coolest, and potentially most useful, Aim Lock. Holding the Aim Lock button will force Samus to aim in a specific direction, and walk instead of run. This makes some of the harder Metroid fights more interesting, since you can now strafe and position your shots better.

These features have been in development for quite a while. Now that they're working properly and bug-free, they are officially a part of the engine. You'll be able to try these out on the upcoming demo.

And last but not least, Decayed, an awesome AM2R fan, donated a Game Maker Ubuntu Export Module license. This means that, whenever the project is migrated to Studio, a Linux port will be very likely to be developed.
My gratitude to this great person, he's starting his own project, so make sure you visit his webpage every once in a while.

As always, your thoughts, comments and suggestions are welcome.

As a Retro Gamer, I hardly get excited about new games releases, so I don't pass through that "OMG when is this going to be released?","OMG I can't wait to play this" and stuff... But AM2R is doing this to me! I NEED TO PLAY THIS!

Keep the great work Doc, and then we can throw in Nintendo's face: "See this? Why didn't you do this? That's why you're in a crisis!". Lucky we have people like you Doc, fans that don't fuck up good things!

Looks great! Hopefully you will be cleaning up some of those animations though. In some of them Samus looks like she's moonwalking.

Doc, amazing work! With all the impressive work that you have put in, it feels like an entirely new game. I can't wait for the next demo. Doc, you are awesome. Thanks a bunch for putting in the effort and making this. :)
For any future AM2R videos, could you please upscale them 300% via nearest neighbor? YouTube's video quality at 240p is pretty poor, so pixel-tripling to 960x720 is a very good idea for retaining visual clarity.

From what I understand you're using Game Maker, but when the game will be over the engine that you have created with GM you release it public so that people can create their own games metroid?

Finally! A new update! The game is looking great. Like so many others I cannot wait for this to be finished. For that matter I'm looking forward to the new demo. Keep it up.

Wow, it's looking so nice and polished. You're doing amazing work, I've been following the project from the start and I can say I am more than blown away by what you've managed to do so far. Thank you. I can't wait to play the final game :)

This just keeps getting better and better. Good work Doc!

@Blacksoul The closest he is going to get to making this open source is creating modding support for his engine(that is, if everything goes as planned).

Looking very nice. I've been following the blog for this project for quite some time and the game has really come a long way from the looks of it. I've refrained from playing any demos released though as I want the full experience my first time playing. Looking forward to whenever that day may be.

I'm following this project since the beginning...I ..can't..handle...more PAIN

hi doc. this is terra :)
i like the moonwalking effect, as i remember you could change the settings on super metroid and also do this.
glad to hear your still working on the project
i have just one request,
try not to put too many extra things in this game, otherwise its going to seem too advanced for metroid 2, so far its getting more advanced than fusion, zero mission and super metroid.
i will continue to follow this amazing project as metroid 2 story was my favourite of the series
this game was owed the remake you are making
cannot wait for the next demo :)
hope all is well,
thank you

Doc - keep going strong! A rock solid timeless classic is what you are making and I don't care how long it takes.

I will play this for the rest of my life.

THANK.
YOU.

Thank you for all your sacrifices and determination to see this through.

Just finished the demo, you did an awesome job so far. Looking forward to further development... keep up the good work :)

This looks superb, very exciting! It genuinely looks like the kind of progression I would expect from a Nintendo team not just one person (and I think I'm being generous to Nintendo there!). This is even more reason to say well done, keep up the good work and most of all thank you. I feel when this is done it will greatly improve Metroid's pedigree.

A linux port would be awesome.

When is the new demo coming out? lol

I think the the auto climb is great, but it could use an automatic version of it where all you have to do is walk into something and it climbs for you. You should also be able to switch this on and off in the options.

wow this looks great. the aim lock is someting i thoght a lot of 2D metroid games needed so it is great to see it here. keep it up you make some big studios look stagnent in comperison

Love the demo. Cannot wait for the full game to be released. However i ran into a glitch where a Metroid appeared and killed me right at the start of the second area and the metroid battle music continued to play even though i was back at the title screen. Be sure to fix this issue right away.

Huh, it feels like it wasn't so long ago when you've first started AMR2.. but as of today I can tell that it has grown so much! With it's new beautiful artistic sprites, tile sets, lighting features, and game mechanics, your project is looking so stunning and gorgeous that even makes it's own unique game!

I am so very proud to be your follower, and I will continue to do so as I lend my voice and encourage you and your team to reach that ultimate goal.. the completion of a well crafted fan game that the franchise so rightfully deserves.

You guys are so close to fulfilling that goal as I'm looking forward to it, but hey there is no rush! Steady as she goes~

I really want to thank you for all the time and hard work you have put into this.
I eagerly await the day this game is released.
If this game turn out as good I think it will, I definitely won't be playing the GB version whenever I do a Metroid marathons.

Yo, Doc. I have greatly enjoyed the demo so far, and look forward to the next one. Thanks a bunch for doing this. Metroid is my favorite series, but I've never had the time nor the patience to get lost on SR-388, so what you're doing is allowing me and others like myself a chance to experience a key part of the series, and I appreciate that.

This is so well done. It's incredible that this was done almost as a solo project instead of by a Nintendo team. This fits right in with the Metroid series as a remake on par with Zero Mission, and far exceeds the original Metroid 2. Thank you for doing this.
