Back on track

Fortunately, things are going back to normal. I´m starting to have some free time to invest in the project.
Most of these weeks work was spent on tweaking and tuning the level design of areas 1, 2 and 3. Many small bugs in some scripted events were fixed, and some elements that were done years ago were redone.
Besides being a tech demo and a great chance to find bugs in the engine, Confrontation has set the standard of level and background detail that AM2R aims for. There are many places that still look too simplistic (mostly the caves connecting the different areas) that need work.
Also, some new tilesets were done to replace some old, outdated tiles.

Speaking of Confrontation, the super secret room was found by Hemse. Head to the forums, for instructions on how to get there. The secret prize... AM2R will feature a secret "Hemse Mode" with new gameplay twists. Congratulations!

Thank you for following the project, and like always, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hemse mode? :D at first, I thought you were only kidding about it in the forums xD

I wonder how long it will take people to find "Hemse mode". it will be interesting to see what those gameplay twists might be. :)

Hey Bruno 1986 Brasil, you don't have to anonymously text. We know you didn't just go away. We are watching you.

>:)
Thanks Doc! Can't wait for the full game to come out!
I just noticed that when I put Joystick input on "disabled" in confrontation, it starts working, and when I put it on "enabled", its disabled... is this a mistake or am I not getting something here???

What can I say? Always pontual, always receptive, always talent. Thanks for the 100th time for remaking Metroid's best game. It's very nice of you.

*By the way, DoctorM64, have you seen Streets of Rage Remake v5.0? If not, take a look. The extras are so very cool. Maybe there are some other things in that game that could get you inspired.

What is the projected finish date of this game? If u dont have one can you make a rough estimate?. Ive been watching this game since close to its birth and it certainly is taking a long time and i respect the fact that the time you are taking is to make sure it is exactly what you set it out to be and as good as it can be. Is there any possibility of releasing like a version 1.0 in the near future, as i wuld love to see some kind of finished version of this game because it wuld be fantastic. May the project be blessed with hasteness. I say this because of the questionable projected events that are about to occur in our world and i wuld hate to see nothing come at all of this awesome project.
The game is around 70-80% completed.

la verdad es que esta sobre el 80% (un 85%-90%) según el informe mas reciente
Suomynona said…
based on the info given.. I'd say it's about 87% done...

All the areas are pretty much done except for some touch ups, and the only hard work that needs to be done is some spriting and enemy AI coding.

My need for this game exceeds my addiction to Minecraft. It's been far too long since the last really good Metroid game.

Am I dreaming too much if I say this will be release in August? Because it happens to be Metroid's 25th anniversary. Nintendo doesn't seen to give a damn about it, but maybe Doc does? Well I know I do

I'm absolutely loving the work that's been placed in this project. Confrontation is the best metroid clone ive veer played...

The only problem I have with it, is that it uses Zero Mission's sprites and retains many of zero missions essential qualities. However, the ability to wall jump off of platforms of only one block of height is not retained, I suppose for the purpose of preventing sequence-breaking in the demo.

This lone little tweak compared to zero mission really got to me a bit; it's really nothing, but just something I thought I'd note.
Suomynona said…
MoNkEyBoY1993.... You should try again, because you CAN wall jump off of platforms only one block high.. I do it all the time when playing.

I don't play fan games very often. I only played a few Tomb Raider fan games from Level Editor and Streets of Rage Remake. All good. But - I don't know why - something tells me that Metroid 2 Remake is gonna be the coolest fan made ever!

Hey guys, I got Zelda OoT 3d yesterday. Sad to say, It is so good I have been sneak playing it at the bathroom at work, at home, and under my desk in school. I thought I bought a 3DS for naught cause the 3d with most of the games the 3d isn't really impressive. I was wrong though. This game alone made the value of my 3DS go from shiny $250 flip open shoe horn, to a system that has some potential. People see it and say "I'm getting mine tomorrow". (3 of my buddies already.)

If they ported a Metroid in 3D, or made a new one, (especially making a new side scroller) I would be proud of this system's accomplishments, even if those only accomplishments were OoT and Metroid.

Anyway, sorry to interrupt. Just thought I would share. Where were we? Testicles, right?
Passarbye said…
@septimus x, 3-D metroid on the ds? have you never heard of metroid prime hunters? they really can't get better than that unless they do a 2-D metroid with 3d effects if that's what you mean.
Suomynona said…
honestly I could care less if they use 3-D graphics on a 2-D Metroid... I'd actually prefer them to use sprites like the older games... but with everyone these days complaining of graphical capabilities of systems, no one will make a game with 2-D sprites.... somehow, in this day and age, graphics seem to matter more to some people... it makes my eyes rain.
Septimus X said…
@Passarbye - Yeah, a 2-d side scroller metroid (like Super Metroid, or Fusion) is what I meant. Sorry for not clarifying. Although I have played Hunters. I like that game a lot also. I thought the story and set-up of the game was pretty decent, but what really hooked me was the control scheme. I loved the controls and got really fluent with them. They did an excellent job with that.

@Suomynona - I actually prefer the older 2D sprites to the 3D Metroid games as well. But if you get a good 2D game (such as Fusion) with the 3D enhancements, it makes the game so much more beautiful than originally released. If they do end up doing that, which I hope they do, you will get a chance to see what I mean. Maybe it will peak your interest too? And people do often want bigger and better as far as graphic capabilities go, but Nintendo seems to hang around and satisfy the needs of old school gamers like ourselves on occasion. Lets hope they keep us in mind while progressing.

By the time I get the money for a 3DS, 15 new DSes would have probably come out already.
