Family

These weeks I dedicated all my time to my family. Last Friday, my first daughter was born. She´s beautiful, healthy, and incredibly cute.
Both my girlfriend and I are living the happiest moment in our lives, and we´re enjoying every moment of it.

Nine months ago all of my priorities changed a lot. Including how much time I can dedicate to AM2R. The project hasn´t advanced as much as I wanted, but right now it´s not my biggest priority, compared to other moments in my life.
Other people in my situation would just dump the project, and move on. I just moved it aside a little bit, and slowly make progress.

Luckily, I was able to complete the contents of the first demo in time for you to enjoy at the NCFC. Oh, I want to express my gratitude to the great people who showed their support at the NCFC, thanks to you AM2R was awarded the Best of Show award.

So, no AM2R progress on this post... Next time there will be, I promise.

Comments

Congrats! Can't blame you for having a break, with or without reason...family should come first, anyhow. Just as long as AM2R doesn't end up like MP2D, it's fine. Have fun!

As an old game programmer and father of 4 children myself; I'd like to say congratulations! It's a very wonderful thing to be starting a family and I can COMPLETELY understand what you mean by priorities changing!

I'll also tell you that I never let my hobby (game design/development) die when I had children, either. It's wonderful being able to watch them grow up and teach them all you can about subjects that meant/mean so much to you!

I wish you and your girlfriend all the best! Enjoy these moments - they became some of my most cherished memories :)

Muchisimas felicidades doc!!!!

Congratulations on the new baby girl, Doc. I don't think anyone blames you for wanting to take some time off now and again, especially if it's to spend time with your family, and I know that everybody appreciates the fact that you haven't given up on the project - despite having plenty of opportunities to do so - and that you continue to surprise us with updates on a regular basis. The AM2R demo is immensely satisfying and is more than enough to hold your fans over for a while. Best wishes to you and your family!

I would never ask you to put the project before your child. By all means take care of her. At the same time however, I want to thank you for not killing the project like others would. (And wait until she gets older and you can watch her play AM2R!)

We loyal fans can definitely wait for your amazing project, Doc! You've put so much hard work into it, we know it'd be pointless to let it go now - go ahead and enjoy all the time you can with your family; after all, that is what is important. :)
Good for you. I also dedicated a lot of time to a video game mod in the past. But since my kids were born they're all I care about. Good luck with your daughter. It will be the most amazing thing ever.

Wait till she becomes a teenager. Then you'll have PLENTY of time to work on the project. :P

In all seriousness, congrats!!! Spend all the time in the world with her. I've been a fan since the beginning, and I will continue to wait patiently for this master piece.

Congrats on the baby girl. Always make sure family and friends come first. I don't care if the game doesn't come out by the end of this year or the first half of next year anyway. I have too many games to play at the moment thanks to Nintendo and the giant amount of cheap indie games available on Steam, PC, and 3DS eshop.

So good to read you are spending time with your family. This should always come first. Cherish those moments. The game does not run you away, but there is nothing more sad than not seeing your kid grow up. Best wishes from Austria :)

Congrats, doc! You should always put family first, but at the same time we're glad you haven't given up on this.

Just keep doing what you're doing. Enjoy time with your family, and make AM2R whenever you feel like it. Not like I need to tell you that. =)

That's understandable (anyone saying the contrary would be a selfish bastard). Congrats on both of you parents, and enjoy your time with your newborn kid :).

Wait, you said "girlfriend" and not "wife". What's with that? If you have a child, you should man up and get married. Apparently, you are very happy that you have a wonderful child. Your woman must be waiting for you to propose.

Btw, how old are you?

@HMS Marriage may be too expensive for them. After all, if batteries are expensive in Argentina (see his first few posts) imagine how much greater things would cost! Because of that, it's not a big deal. As an anonymous pastor once said, "As long as you say 'I do' and stand by it for about 50 years, it doesn't matter how you do it." Also, in a favorite book of mine, the main character asks if his parents were ever married and Oromis says, "I know why you ask, Eragon, and I do not know if my answer will satisfy you. Marriage is not an elvish custom, and the subtleties of it often escape me. No one joined them in marriage, but I know they considered themselves to be married. If you are wise, you will not worry that others of your race will call you a bastard but instead be content that they gave their lives that you might live."

My first comment here. Congratulation!! I keep track of other projects that have been going on months or even years. As long as AM2R will continue, I can wait.

Dios Los Bendiga...

Congrats! Keep going forward! Your game is looking amazing!

No! This is unacceptable! You must set aside your offspring and mate and delve deep into the coding of AM2R! When it is complete you can spend time with your family unit!

Jk.

Seriously, enjoy your family. The game can wait for awhile. Just please do not abandon it entirely. I hate lost games.

Congratulations! Good luck with the family and stuff, although I really do hope that you finish AM2R soon.

Congrats! My first daughter was born last year in august in the middle of a programming project of mine. I know how you feel. You are doing the right thing. Don't miss a moment with your family. Not one.

You know what? Don't worry so much about it. You have a daughter now, your priorities NEED to shift. If people tell you otherwise, ignore 'em. I think it's wonderful, as far as I'm concerned, take all the time you need. =)

Congrats Doctor! This is really good to hear, I'm happy for you and your girlfriend! May your daughter be healthy and prosper! :)

Take your time with the project! I hope you don't see it as a stressful matter. Work on it only as long as it's rewarding to you and when you have the time to finish it in the quality you always planned.

Again, congratulations and cheers!

You know Doc, it never ceases to amaze me how you have kept this project alive over the years when every other Metroid fangame has died a tragic, horrible death due to lack of support. Some of these games were in many ways even better than AM2R! You've heard their names, everyone has. SR388, MP2D, Metroid Subzero and many others. All of them dead and destroyed. In their tradition, AM2R should've been dead many years ago. But the little fangame that could just keeps chugging along. :)

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Felicidades Doc, esas motivaciones son las que dan sentido a nuestra vida, así que a seguir haciendo y cuidando lo que nos mueve.

Hi.

I was just wondering what type of digital media will this be released on? PC CD ROM / Game disc for a specific console / Download / A cartridge for a portable system?

To echo the bulk of comments I've seen here, I've been following your blog for some time, and I want to congratulate you, and add my own assurance that we will be fine whilst you enjoy your new daughter. I frankly would rather know that she is getting the attention she deserves than have AM2R out any time soon. Again, congratulations, and best wishes.

I hope you and your family are doing well.

I think everybody in here feels the same about you, congratulations, We all wish the best for your lives. And we hope for the game, but for now, rest a little bit and enjoy your newborn baby with your family. Peace.

So, how's AM2R coming now?

Nobody has posted here recently, so I was just curious.
Congratulations for your new daughter! I wish you the best!

And...I hope your work will be recognized, specially in Argentina (we live there and we know that things like metroid are niche).
