Fixed!!!

I bought a new power supply yesterday, I installed it and the system has been stable since then.
I want to thank all the great people that commented here in the blog and emailed me with their suggestions. The faulty power supply was one of the most mentioned cause you suggested, one that I hadn´t considered.

Why did I take so long to fix it?
I discarded other possible causes in my free time, being the PSU and the motherboard the last two (the most expensive ones).

Now progress resumes, I´m preparing the tileset and backgrounds for the final area. It´s fairly small, I should have it done in a couple of days.

Thanks again for all of your support, and for taking the time to write. (Sorry if I couldn´t reply all the emails!)

that's great news man! happy to hear the problem is fixed and that you're back on track

Glad to know you've got it working. Overheating and random shutdowns are almost always attributed to the PSU.

Think you could reward our help with an update and some screencaps once you finish the final area? From there, I'm guessing you just have the finish programming enemy A.I. and the Queen, then give the whole game a few runthroughs to ensure everything works properly?

AWESOME! Will you send the game files to Metroid Construct? It will be the safest site to paste your file!

you need to keep the finishing of this secret, or even fake that you stopped the project, then just unleash in over the internet one day so that nintendo cant shut it down. this game looks phenominal. you are a true gamer.

Wow, you had me waiting in suspense. I'm a massive Metroid fan and have been following your blog ever since you started it a few years ago and this is the first time i've commented. I'm so excited about the final release, and thank god you didn't shut it down like most of the other ones.
Speedycat said…
When you finish M2 will you remake something else with your engine?
snu said…
heh, here's a weird thing, after posting on the forum about this, i just was hired to fix someone's computer that had the exact same issue... and ended up having the same solution.
Ezekiel Rage said…
once youve finished this, you could do your very own game. you have all the assets ready. i think doing your own game with your own story and such would be awesome, once after AM2R is finished :)

YAY! great! Its almost finished! I can't wait to play this game! So how long do you predict it will take? any more than a month?

Dear milton "doctor m64",

Greetings from NOA. Now as you may be worried about nintendo's lawyers and legal issues, I can assure you that we are not going to send out a C&D not yet anyways. The legal department wishes to and I quote "bring down the hamme on fan game" as most are not good quality and just fill up the Internet with unneeded games that smear the names of the games that they are a copy off of. We here in the development of nintendo do realize when I person has true talent in video game development and are trying to find any loophole we can to NOT get this game shut down. I have been following this blog for around a year and appreciate your work. As you have said metroid II is in desperate need of a remake and that is what you are doing! I can't say this is 100% for sure yet but if the opportunity presents itself would you be interested to sell the rights to NOA? We would develope this game on a perfesional level (maybe even with your help) and market it around the WORLD! Please do understand things army official yet but if you are interested please send us a message.

Scincerely,
Your pals at NOA
Anonymous said…
^ WOW! Is that for real?
Anonymous said…
Will you sell the game or will it be free???? I think we should at least be able to donate for all your work!
Anonymous said…
I doubt that's a real NoA representative, as frankly, NoA largely ignores fangames. They've been around for years and little has been done about it.

More to the point, they wouldn't contact him in this way. It'd be private and through a much more professionally written letter than what we've seen here.

Finally, while the doc's work is impressive and borderline professional (I want it more than Metroid Other M), it doesn't match the methods for how a traditional nintendo 2D game would be developed. The game's being built with a game design program. It's not being coded from the ground up. It may be possible to import the tiles and maps, but they're very unlikely to do just that.

I'm not sure what "NOA" here intends, but I promise you, they can't possibly be a legit rep.
Anonymous said…
"^ WOW! Is that for real?"

No, of course it's not for real; did you see all the typos, punctuation errors and capitalization mistakes?
Anonymous said…
No that's not real. Nintendo would never hire a lawyer with such horrendus writing skills, nor would they make such an offer, especially not on the comments section of his blog.
Anonymous said…
hey doc you could have fixed it but the problem remains,

The shutdowns are because of overheating (ive hat a lot experience at that)

so if you dont put more vents or a cooling system in your computer you will be having the same problems at future.
NOA said…
Sorry doc I was rather busy the day I wrote you that message. I was waiting for my flight so I did the message from my iPhone. As you owners of the iPhone/ITouch have probably realize if you try to type fast you make typos, and the auto correct kicks in, and most of the time it just make things worse. I can assure you that the message was in fact real, and if you still thing this is fake just drop us a line.
I was watching a YouTube video and I found an infinite jump glitch that someone was demonstrating in Metroid Confrontation. You might want to fix that. Take Super Metroid's underwater jumping mechanics and put it on an infinite steroid supply. Basically, if you turn into the morph ball at the peak of a straight jump, and then deactivate the morph ball while still at that height, you can do another straight jump. You need to work on fixing that.
Zoonyboy said…
i don't know about the NOA thing but it cant hurt just sending them a message. it probably is fake but wouldn't it be cool if that really happened????????
SAC/Black_Yoshi said…
Well, excellent to see you're back on schedule and your problems are gone. I think I might have to update my Top 10 Game/Mod Waits List (Other M is at No. 1).

I don't think that the NOA Guy is real - would official person start with "sorry DOC" :P

okay doc you're doing good work.
Would you make new preview soon? :3
Anonymous said…
HA HA!! Nice (pitiful) save "NoA"!! Blame your bad grammar and english on the iphone!! LMAO!!! Oh and I would think that NoA would send correspondence directly to doc as they would have PI's capable of finding him, his address and sending him a FORMAL letter with Nintendo's Letterhead!! Not post on his forum! WTF?? NOA try harder next time.

Dear Doc,
I am the vice president of the United States of America and I also work for sony's playstation division as well, and would like to buy the rights to your Metroid 2 remake so I can sell it for 90 dollars a copy and have merchandise rights. I think the children of America will enjoy metroid toilet paper (it clings to your butt like little metroids!), Samus cereal (Tastes like real phazon!), and Mother Brain perfume (made with real brain!) Please contact me! You got my number dog! Holla!

Dear God I can't wait until this drops. I've been wanting to play this every since it was announced.

Israel here, we cannot wait.

Can I also just point out that Nintendo already own the rights to the whole Metroid franchise and don't need to give squat to Doc.

Fixed for you means yay for us!
Ultimately we will get an awesome game.
Counting down the days to release.
Kinda hoping it's tomorrow... LOL.

No one is excited as me, I think.
I have really been looking forward to it.
Gonna play day and night when it comes out!
Get tons of energy drinks and play.
Especially on the weekends, awesome!
Really excited for the release!!

As for the "NoA representative", this fangame is FREE, and Doctor M64 is not taking ownership of Nintendo's work, and is not infringing on any of Nintendo's rights. Any lawsuits/attempts to "shut down" the project would be invalid. Just wanted to point that out.

This is my first time commenting, but I'd like to say good work on this remake so far. I only stumbled upon this about 4-3 months ago, but I've been following it since then.

I come here to see if there are anymore updates almost every day, as I am extremely excited for this.

Hope everything works out nicely, and that the rest of the process goes smoothly.

I have loved Metriod since its beginning, I used to play the Super Nintendo version for days on end when it first came out. I lost out on playing the newer versions because I never bought an upgraded game console after that.
This is so cool that you have taken the time to bring back a great game. I am checking out the version you have on the site. Thanks for all you hard work.Super! Sincerely an old guy.

CAN I PLAY THIS ON A GAMEBOY EMULATOR WHEN IT'S FINISHED?

Anyone would believe me if I say that I want to play this game first than Other M? xD I've preordered it already, I'm dying to play other M, but Metroid II will always be my favorite. Keep up the good work, doc!

Ok. So, Doc, if Nintendo were to say, give you a contract and sign you with TECMO, LTD., if they asked you for an "up-in-the-air" completion date, what might you say would be that date approximatly?

You're doing a great job.
One tip: make several backups of your project, if possible on DVD, in several different folders or on different computers. Care is more than necessary on a project like this.
